Famous vocalist Bobby McFerrin gives a concert in Kyiv
On 27th January 2010 Bobby McFerrin, an American vocalist and ten-times a Grammy Award winner, gave a concert at the International Culture and Art Centre “The Zhovtneviy Palace” (www.bobbymcferrin.com). The Festival organizer was the production centre Jazz in Kiev.
The General partners of the project were the School of English language “Oxford Klass” and Kvazar-Micro Company.
The owner of a unique voice, whose creative work has influenced generations of vocalists all over the world, paid his first visit to Ukraine. At this exclusive concert in Kyiv Bobby McFerrin sang solo as this is the concert format the vocalist prefers. The musician demonstrated all the potential of the oldest musical instrument in the world – the human Voice, by singing a cappella that impressed everyone!
The famous Kyiv journalist and jazzman Aleksey Kogan led the concert.
Information: Bobby McFerrin combines jazz, folk and world music in his creative work. In his beautiful music you can hear echoes of religious carols and academic classics. McFerrin’s vocal technique can be described in one word: “unconventional”, which means “not conforming to accepted rules or standards, unusual, not conforming to any convention”. The singer’s musical career has spanned thirty years and includes collaboration with many jazz legends, including Chick Corea,Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Al Jarreau, Quincy Jones, Yo-Yo Ma and many others.
McFerrin is known not only as a singer and composer but also as a conductor. And owing to his super hit at the end of the last century - “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” (this record won 3 out of 10 Grammies), his name is known even by people who have never listened to jazz.
