UNIVERSITIES OF THE WORLD, THAT RECOGNIZE CAMBRIDGE EXAMS
The CAE exam presupposes a high level of language proficiency, which is sufficient for admission to some universities in the UK and worldwide. This level enables candidates to use English confidently in different situations, use different language resources, distinguish between formal and informal language, understand the hidden meanings, understand linguistically complex texts, express their opinions, know cultural differences of English-speaking countries, as well as to distinguish between British and American English.
The international exam CAE is divided into five sections, which are called Papers. During this exam, there are tested the following language skills: reading, writing, practical language skills (use of English), listening, and speaking.
- Reading and Use of English: 1 hour 30 minutes, 8 parts (56 questions).
Test Objective: tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face situations. You will take the Speaking test with another candidate.
- Writing — 2 hours. It consists of 2 parts.
Test Objective: the Writing Section consists of two assignments of 250 words each. A candidate must write a letter, report, and description. The second one is to choose from four options: an article, opus, letter, story, review, or text-based tasks. The second part is a task that requires a prior reading. It is called “set text options”. A candidate must reflect the details: the characters, plot, etc. The list of books is the same for all countries and changes every two years.
- Listening — 45 minutes. It consists of 4 parts and 30 questions.
Test Objective: to listen to audio recordings on various topics. It tests the candidate’s ability to understand the meaning of the text heard, considering different speeds and accents.
Task types: sentence completion, multiple choice, and multiple matching.
- Speaking — 15 minutes. It consists of 4 parts.
Test Objective: to participate in a conversation between two examiners and two candidates simultaneously, interview with the examiner about free time, education, career, etc., individual one-minute task, and general discussion with another candidate.
